Ashapurna Devi is one of Bengal’s most popular writers. She has written more than 3,000 stories in her lifetime and is the winner of the Jnanpith Award in 1976, Sahitya Akademi Award in 1993, and the Padma Shri.

About the Translator

Ruma Chakravarti is a blogger. She translates Bangla songs, poems, and stories into English in order to make more people aware of the rich body of Bengali literature, which remains relatively unknown to English-speaking readers. Growing up in Africa, India, and Papua New Guinea, she now calls Australia home.
